Johnson County Mutual Insurance Association is the product of a merger between Sharon Mutual Insurance Association and Northwestern Mutual Insurance Association. Sharon Mutual Insurance Association was organized in 1866 and Northwestern Mutual Insurance Association was organized in 1867. Sharon Mutual was established in Sharon Township and Northwestern Mutual in Oxford Township, Johnson County, Iowa. These companies were founded by a farmer/consumer group that sought to provide affordable insurance protection for themselves and others like them in the county. In 1995 the Board of Directors saw the benefit of merging these two companies together. Today the company writes Homeowners and Farmowners insurance in 8 counties: Johnson, Linn, Cedar, Iowa, Washington, Muscatine, Benton, and Louisa.

The company still remains POLICYHOLDER OWNED & OPERATED.
